Trunk Club by Nordstrom Review: Did I Love it?

I’m sure many of you have seen advertisements from Trunk Club by Nordstrom or bloggers who use it. I have been for awhile now and was intrigued because:
1. I hate shopping and
2. I love Nordstrom
Contrasting statements I know. But I finally caved and am now going to explain how the entire process works as well as my honest reaction and thoughts. This is a positive AND negative review so no, I am not selling you on the service.
So, I decided to sign up and try it out for a month. It’s great because you can get as few or as many boxes as you want and aren’t stuck in a contract. It’s $25/box unless you buy one of the selections, in which case the expense is then applied to the purchase.
When you sign up, you do a little fashion quiz/questionnaire thing that goes over your basic likes and dislikes. Then you’re paired with a stylist who goes pretty in depth with what you’re looking for. Mine was Jaqueline and she was FANTASTIC and even checked out the bloggers that I follow and wanted to emulate.
After that, they curate a box for you based on what you say. They send you the preliminary picks and you can accept or reject certain pieces and explain why you liked or disliked each piece. Then they readjust and send you an updated box.

You have 5 days upon receiving the box, to try on the clothes, consider them, and then return them.
Here was my trunk

The items selected were more or less my style. However, I ran into a couple problems. My body can sometimes be a tad difficult to dress. I have very broad shoulders, a short waist, and narrow hips (there is an opportunity to put that information into the questionnaire which I though was awesome). That means a few things. My shoulders put me in a different sized top typically than my waist so sizing shirts can sometimes be difficult. Also since I am 5’9” and have a short waist, my legs are abnormally long so I’ve always had to order Longs or Extra Longs for my pant length. Moral of the story: I am not always true to size. Great fun.
That being said, the clothes for the most part didn’t fit quite right. This wasn't unexpected but I realized I'm much smaller in Nordstrom clothes than I remember.

These crop pants were a great fit but just an awkward length for me especially because the bottoms flared out . The top was just way too big (It's clamped in the back) and since it was clearly meant to broaden someone’s shoulders which I do not need help with, it was not the most flattering. Not saying it was awful, just not the most flattering.

I’ve already posted my feelings about white jeans but these were the epitome of what I struggle with. Fantastic quality but not for me. I was so excited about this top when I saw the picture but it was completely sheer, and way too big around the middle. I LOVED the sleeves and it definitely fit my shoulders but made me look pregnant which I do not appreciate lol.

There was a super cute Free People distressed sweater in there. Completely my style, fit perfectly , super comfy and I loved it. The problem I have...it was $70. Look i’m not uncomfortable spending $70 on a sweater. However, I am uncomfortable spending $70 on a sweater that I’ll only wear around the house with sweatpants when i’m being lazy. There are so many options for loungewear that are as cute and comfortable but don’t cost that much, I couldn’t justify the expense.

This was a basic gray tank which I would obviously love because it's apparently my signature color. What I want to draw your attention to though are these Spanx leggings. They are the best thing I have ever worn. I ran into a bit of an issue with the price though-$98. I wasn’t sure if they were worth it since they looked like leather and I’m not someone who typically goes out in public in leather leggings. I talked to one of my friends about it and she knew the exact product I was talking about. She purchased the moto ones awhile ago even though she was super hesitant about the cost. They apparently hold up really well in the wash and said it was the best purchase she ever made going as far as to say she wears them 4/7 days per week on average. Then she told me if someone took them from her and said she would have to pay $200 to get them back, she wouldn’t hesitate. That was high praise and I decided to splurge on a pair. However, I figured the moto version would be more my speed so I returned these and ordered the others online.
Life lesson from my mother: When spending money on clothes, divide the cost by the number of times you will wear it. Very applicable in this situation which is why I felt comfortable buying the leggings.

This plaid button up is adorable. I like the color and the neckline but I had to clamp it in the back because it was SO big. It fit my shoulders perfectly but I would probably need a small for my waist and then the arms and shoulders would be too tight.
They also sent a skirt that I liked but didn’t need and shoes that I have similar pairs of, as well as a blazer that was supposed to be oversized but I don’t think it was supposed to be THAT oversized.
Once I had made my decisions about what to keep and what to return, I went onto the app, scheduled a box pick up (UPS comes to your house to get it), and packaged it up with the tags and tape they sent, so easy!
And there you have it, the Trunk Club process from start to finish.
My overall reactions
I should have known better about the pricing since they were Nordstrom products. I am a HUGE fan of the store but frugal to a fault so if I’m going to splurge, I should probably just take the time and go there to try things on. I’ll also have more to choose from so I’ll know that I’m spending money on my favorite item, not just my favorite from a small selection. If extreme frugality is not something you struggle with, DO IT!
If you struggle with sizing, it’s probably best to just try things on in person. I’ve always had that problem with online shopping and know i’m not alone, so that was a tad disappointing. Again, this was not their fault and would have been fixed after a couple of boxes.
It was really fun seeing what someone else would pick out for me and I got out of my fashion comfort zone. I loved that aspect of the process and think that part was totally worth it.
The customer service on this was absolutely amazing. Nordstroms never seems to fail in that department and I continue to be impressed.
Will I do it again?
If I wasn’t so frugal I would and I definitely think it was worth trying even if it's just to say I did. However, I think I’d rather just go to Nordstrom and see what they have to offer before I drop a couple hundred dollars on someone else’s suggestions- the box totaled around $1000 if you were to purchase everything in it.
Hopefully my honest review is helpful and if you decide to give Trunk Club a try, let me know how you like it!
Go forth and be fashionable!
